Yale Professor: "Sex Crazed Roaring Twenties Awaits Post-Pandemic"
NY Post- Sex, sacrilege and spending await society on the other side of the coronavirus pandemic.
So says Yale professor Dr. Nicholas Christakis in his new book, “Apollo’s Arrow: The Profound and Enduring Impact of Coronavirus on the Way We Live.”
According to Christakis, who is also a social epidemiologist, society will make up for lost time as soon as it’s safe to, with hedonism quickly replacing conservative socializing — but that reversal remains years away.
“During epidemics you get increases in religiosity, people become more abstentious, they save money, they get risk averse and we’re seeing all of that now, just as we have for hundreds of years during epidemics,” Christakis told the Guardian. “In 2024, all of those [pandemic trends] will be reversed.”
As in the “roaring ’20s,” which followed the 1918 pandemic, this will plunge humanity into an era of vice and indulgence.
“People will relentlessly seek out social interactions,” said Christakis, naming “sexual licentiousness,” a “reverse of religiosity” and an economic boom as likely trends.
This eventual outcome is fairly predictable, he said, because the ongoing pandemic — although novel to those alive today — is not a new phenomenon in human history.
Reading that article and that professor's words just got me all tingly down in my plumbs.
Sex, drugs, gambling, and vices of all other kinds and sorts are awaiting us on the other side of this nightmare? Hell yes.
If you doubt this for even a second, just take a look at what's been going on in China the last month now that they're in the clear-
Reuters - In a crowded Wuhan beer hall, Zhang Qiong wipes birthday cake from her face after a food fight with her friends.
"After experiencing the first wave of epidemic in Wuhan and then the liberation, I feel like I'm living a second life," says Zhang, 29, who works in a textiles shop in the central Chinese city that was the original epicentre of COVID-19.
Outside, maskless partygoers spill onto the streets, smoking and playing street games with toy machine guns and balloons.
Nightlife in Wuhan is back in full swing almost seven months after the city lifted its stringent lockdown and the city's young partygoers are embracing the catharsis.
In scenes unimaginable in many cities around the world reeling under a resurgence of the pandemic, young Wuhan residents during a recent night out crowd-surfed, ate street food and packed the city's nightclubs as they looked to make up for lost time.
The revival of the city's hard-hit nightlife economy offers a glimpse into a post-pandemic lifestyle that many hope will become a reality in 2021, after the global rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
Wuhan hasn't reported a new locally transmitted case of the disease since May 10, after undergoing one of the strictest lockdowns worldwide.
The city of 11 million was shut off from the rest of China in a surprise overnight lockdown beginning Jan 23, with road blocks erected and planes, trains and buses barred from entering the city. Almost 3,900 of China's 4,634 recorded COVID-19 deaths occurred in the industrial city.
Students, musicians, artists and young workers - the backbone of the city's nightlife scene - told stories of being stuck in their homes for months, many using the opportunity to prepare for a time when the city would recover.
“I just really want to cherish this time, because in life you never know when it will end," said Zhang in the Wuhan beer hall. "Make every happy day count."
Must be nice Wuhan.
I remember partying. And drinking with friends. And just going out in public places and socializing in general without feeling guilty.
Fun stuff.
Seems like ancient history now, unless you live in Wuhan apparently.
Granted absolutely nothing leaves China and makes it out into the rest of the world without the CCP allowing it, so take these pictures with a LARGE grain of salt as they're most likely staged but here you go-
Mark my words, right here right now, when things in this country re-open fully we're gonna party like the world has never seen before.
We're going to rewrite the definition.
The Romans might have invented partying but it took Americans to perfect the art.
We're gonna make last century's "Roarin 20's" look like fuckin amateur hour compared to these Roaring 2020's. Like that nice man Zhang said in the article, people aren't going to take things for granted anymore.
Those nights you didn't feel like leaving your couch when your friends asked you out to the bar? No more. Those nights you'd rather just order a pizza instead of heading to a restaurant? Fuck that.
The memories of doing nothing for literally a year will be nice and fresh in our minds so everybody is going to take full advantage to rip it all the way up like Fat Joe every day and night.
So enjoy living it up (like Ja Rule featuring Case) and while everybody else is on the sidelines Wuhan because come this spring/summer you're about to blown off the map.
